The current product overview lists November 13, 2026 for new-to-Magic MBC cards in Commander, and January 1, 2027 for Legacy, Vintage, and other Eternal formats. Reprinted cards retain their existing legality.
Rules status is a separate question.
The October 19 bulletin announces planned Comprehensive Rules changes. As checked October 21, the official download is the September 25, 2026 version: rule 712.1 still includes meld as a double-faced card, and the announced Rulebreaker wording has not yet been incorporated. We have not independently confirmed the rule changes’ effective date. Do not use November 13 or January 1 as a substitute for that date.

Not every card has the same legality.
- Reprints: remain legal in formats where they were already legal. An MBC printing does not automatically make a card legal in a new format.
- The 60 cards numbered 1–60: the release notes identify 59 new cards and one previously digital-only card without an acorn symbol. Use the current product overview for the dates above.
- Acorn-stamped cards: not legal in Constructed formats; playable in MBC Draft and Sealed.
- Playtest cards: not legal in Constructed formats; playable in MBC Limited events.
The new MBC cards do not become legal in Standard, Pioneer, or Modern just because they appear in this product. Individual reprints may already be legal in those formats.
Release date and legality date are different questions.
MBC debuted at Gen Con. Festival in a Box: Atlanta 2026 was then announced for online sale on October 19, with one MBC booster box in each bundle. That online sale date is not a card-legality date or a promise of delivery on that date. The sale announcement does not establish current stock; check the live seller listing for availability and an organizer’s listing for event details.
Why we use the product overview for dates
The older release notes explain the card categories and mechanics. The product article explicitly notes that legality timing has been updated, so it is the source for our dated schedule.
